National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is observed every October as a way to promote responsible online behavior and make the Internet a safer place. To help celebrate the 12th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month occurring this October, KidsEmail.Org is doing their part to spread the word by becoming an official “Champion” of the cause.

In 2014, more than 400 businesses, universities, agencies, and associations became National Cyber Security Awareness Month Champions, helping others learn about cyber safety. This year, KidsEmail.org has joined the grassroots movement to encourage people and organizations to be safe online.

“It’s really a no-brainer for us to become an official Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The entire reason KidsEmail exists is to protect children from online predators and inappropriate content, while allowing them to have freedom and autonomy,” said KidsEmail spokesperson Brittany Oler.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) began as an initiative between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance 12 years ago. As people’s digital lives become more important and connected, the campaign’s message of “Stop. Think. Connect.” is even more critical.  This year also marks the fifth anniversary of the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. campaign (https://www.stopthinkconnect.org/). NSCAM 2015 will highlight the overall message of STOP. THINK. CONNECT. as well as the give capstone concepts of the campaign: “Keep a Clean Machine,” “Protect Your Personal Information,”“Connect with Care,” “Be Web Wise” and “Be a Good Online Citizen.”

“The internet is so integrated into our lives that we need to understand how to be safe, and how to teach our kids to be safe. Everyone should be able to enjoy the Internet, but it’s important to understand the consequences of our actions and behaviors and that of others,” Brittany Oler went on to say.
