Pornography on the internet is a HUGE concern for many parents. Pornography can cause long term psychological effects, effects on marriages and employment. Internet pornography is both prevalent and easily accessible by children. Here are 10 Shocking Internet Porn Stats.

  1. 90% of children of ages 8-16 have viewed porn
  2. Porn sites comprise of 12% of the interent – that’s 4.2 Million pornographic websites
  3. The largest consumers of pornography are 12 to 17 year old boys
  4. Every second 28,258 people view porn
  5. 25% of search engines requests are for porn – That’s a whopping 68 Million
  6. 100,000 websites offer illegal child pornography
  7. “Sex” and “porn” are among the top 5 search terms for kids under 18
  8. 87% of convicted molesters of girls and 77% of convicted molesters of boys admit to use of pornography, most often in the commission of their crimes.
  9. The average age at which a child sees porn online is 11.
  10. Clinical research shows that pornographic images create chemically encoded messages on the brain that can remain through adulthood. Human memory is formed in part by the release of the chemical epinephrine which, upon emotional arousal, leaves behind an imprint on the brain.

So what does this mean for your kids using the internet? Having an internet connection in your home poses a huge risk for kids to access adult material. Kids will visit sexually explicits sites either deliberately or accidentally, so it’s important that parents be proactive in protecting their kids. You can either remove the internet access altogether, or use to tools to help keep them safe online.
