I learned that this book encourages the reader to “tell someone” if they have been hurt by another person which is by far the most important message we can teach our kids.

I like that it encourages kids to tell if they have been hurt, Im trying to teach my children that also and if they read it in a book and not just hear it from mom it might mean more.

I like that it is a book made for children I know the age states around 8 but the message is something that should be taught as soon as possible. We have started this conversation with our 4 year old because you never know and its best to have your child prepared.

Learned that this was 1st published in 2011 & came about through writing for therapy. The message is such a great one, because kids can’t be reminded often enought that it’s “OK to tell” if someone is hurting them in ANY way – because usually the person that’s doing it wants to keep it a secret. Love to win one of these for my grandkids!!! ((1955nursehjc4me(at)myway(dot)com)) Thanks for the chance….

I learned a lot by reading the section titled: On a Professional Note. There are so many truths in her words. She expresses the thoughts and feelings of those who don’t share. It’s not just for children but adults as well. So much can be summed up in her statements:
This is the message that needs to be heard, not just by the victims but by those who are in a position to hear these secrets. The act of disclosure is the beginning of the healing process – so long as the secret remains that, it will continue to exert its damaging influence over the sufferer. Those who are in the privileged position of being able to hear, accept and believe these precious disclosures are in a unique position to start a process which may have a profoundly beneficial impact on the life of the person – adult or child. You don’t need to be a highly trained professional – just someone who cares enough to listen and believe and honour this amazing act of courage to which you are bearing witness.
My hope is that this book will help encourage and disseminate this message thereby reducing the tragic legacy of emotional pain that disables so many. The benefits of this to survivors in terms of reducing the stigma and shame of abuse are clear but there are wider benefits to society in terms of there being wider recognition of the prevalence and impact of childhood abuse on our society and developing more effective strategies for both its prevention and amelioration of its effects.”
